• Passing of Emilio Urioste

The Burbank Adult School is profoundly sad to announce the passing of long-time teacher, principal, and administrator, Emilio Javier Urioste, Jr.

Emilio began his teaching career in the mid-1980s before joining the District in 1991 to teach Spanish and History at John Burroughs High School, the school site he would call home for more than 20 years. In 1998 he became the school’s Assistant Principal and was quickly promoted to Principal, a position he held until 2012. In 2012, he joined the District Office to serve in the role of Director of Secondary Education. In 2014, he became the Director of the Burbank Adult School, overseeing the creation of the Independent Learning Academy (ILA) and providing leadership to the FACTs Program.

“Mr. U.,” as many of his students called him, never failed to inspire, uplift, and encourage those around him. Former Burbank teacher and Board Member Dave Kemp described him as a person “with a serious outward demeanor, but a heart that said much more; Emilio was a good man and an outstanding educator and administrator. He so often showed his inner self when it came to dealing with kids and others in tough situations.” During his time as the Director of the Burbank Adult School many people will remember Mr. U. greeting the students as they arrived at school with a big smile, his deep voice always giving encouragement, “You got this, my friend!”

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his colleagues, his former students, and everyone who had the good fortune to call him their friend. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered. May he rest in peace.

    Emillo Urioste

    Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

Burbank Adult School's LVN program is in the final stages of approval with the State of California. We do not know how much longer it is going to take to get this program up and running, but hope that once we get our final approval, we will be able to move quickly. Therefore, we would like to start a list of interested/potential students. This will allow us to provide updates as information becomes available. Please click HERE and fill out the information if you are interested in taking our LVN classes.
