Superintendent Update

Dear BUSD Students, Families, and Employees:

We are excited to welcome students back to campus on August 16th. We also know with the rise in COVID cases many of you are concerned about sending your child back to school. We are continuing to work with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) to implement multiple strategies to keep our students and employees safe.

Attached are some additional answers to your frequently asked questions. In addition, I would like to provide the following updates:

Vaccines: The number one thing we all can do is get vaccinated. Please learn more by clicking here  In addition, the Board is working through a policy that will require all employees to be vaccinated within 60 days after FDA approval of the available vaccines, except for those individuals who qualify for a medical or religious exemption as determined by law. In the meantime, all unvaccinated employees will be tested weekly.

Testing: Given the current increase in COVID cases, we are expanding our testing program. In addition to symptomatic individuals and unvaccinated employees, we will start testing unvaccinated students weekly.

A separate email with details will be sent out regarding testing and will include parent authorization forms. Students will not be tested until the authorization forms are returned.

In the meantime, we encourage all families to contact their insurance provider to find locations that offer free COVID tests (medical offices, pharmacies, clinics, or County sites so that they may conduct a baseline test before the start of school.

COVID-19 Safety Plan aligned with the LACDPH school reopening protocols: We will continue to meet weekly LACDPH and will implement the County’s protocols, as outlined in our District’s COVID-19 Safety Plan.

    Take care,

    Matt Hill, Ed.D.
