🌟Emerson Weekly Updates 1/29/24🌟
Posted by Julie Hubbell on 1/29/2024 9:45:00 AM⭐️Emerson Weekly Update⭐️It's hard to believe we are rounding the corner to February! Thanks to the Catrambone family for heading us our lastest dine-out at BJ's and we appreciate all who could attend! Here are our updates for this week:⭐️Chorus Begins Again!Chorus will begin again this Thursday from 2:50-4:00 for 4/5 grade students. Your child does not need to re-enroll. If your child is newly interested in joining please have them go to the office or ask their teacher for a form.⭐️Reverse Lockdown DrillIt is mandatory for us to do all sorts of safety drills at school. On Tuesday, January 30th we will be having a reverse lockdown drill at approximately 10:35am. Here is BUSD procedure for a lockdown drill:- An announcement may be made over the public address system that a lockdown is being initiated. Over the PA system the drill will be announced “This is a drill! I repeat this is only a drill! This is a lockdown drill. Go to the nearest room and lock the door!”
- Once locked down, all staff and visitors shall remain inside.
- If staff and visitors are in a hallway, they will immediately go into the nearest lockable office or room, lock the door, turn off the lights, cover the windows, silence cell phones and hide, quietly.
- Once locked down, do not open the door for anyone.
Deactivating a Lockdown
- A site administrator will deactivate the lockdown drill. State, “Thank you for taking our lockdown drill seriously. The drill is over and we appreciate your cooperation.”
We will debrief with staff and students on how to clarify or improve the drill.
It is helpful to talk to your children about what this means. Here is a link with ideas for talking to your child about safety drills:https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/talking-to-your-children-about-safety⭐️PBIS/StarBucks GoalsWe are winding up the month and are trying for 1500 StarBucks this week to finish January strong. Students have been showing improvements in many areas and we would love to see that continue! We will be focusing Succeeding Together in the coming weeks and talking about how we can build up ourselves and those around us.⭐️ConferencesIn just a couple weeks, we will have conferences for our 2nd trimester. Teachers will be reaching out to schedule these with you. If your child is at or above grade level in all areas, conferences are not mandatory. That's all for now! Let's have a fabulous week!Warmly,Mrs. AJ -

Welcome Back Families!
Happy New Year!!! We hope you had a wonderful break and are energized and ready for a wonderful second semester! We are ready to get started on all the learning there is yet to do.
Here are updates for this week:
PBIS/StarBucks and School-Wide Goals
We will be working to transition back into school this week with a focus on responsibility and community. We want to make sure our Stars are building the skills they need to have a strong second half of their grade level. Additonally, we want to continue to make sure that our school is a kind and welcoming space for all.
We look forward to seeing students showing care for others and our school. Please help us by discussing goals your children have for this part of the school year.
Attendance and Tardy Letters
As we have shared before, the district sends out form letters when there are too many unexcused absences and/or tardies recorded for your child.
The best way to avoid tardies is to have students inside our school by 8:25. Instruction begins at 8:30. Students who are not in the classroom when instruction begins are considered tardy. There are very few district allowable excuses for tardies.
For more information on district truancy letters you can contact Burbank Student Services. (818)729-4467
Identity Project
Coming up in January is Passport Night. This is a special night for our school as our PTA helps us to celebrate all the families that make up Emerson. To that end, students are invited to participate in an Emerson Indentity Museum. This went home before break. Attached are the directions, as well. The project should be returned by January 16th.
🌟💙🌟💙🌟💙🌟💙🌟💙🌟💙🌟💙🌟💙🌟💙🌟💙🌟💙TALENT SHOW CASTINGReminder - The Talent Show casting workshops are this Wednesday and Thursday - January 10th / 11th from 3:00 - 4:30 in the auditorium. You are only required to attend one day. All different types of acts are welcome and please come even if you are not sure what you would like to do quite yet. All will be cast! Thanks everyone and can't wait to see you all!!Mrs. AJ
